Reserves Win 2-0 - Ipswich Town News

Town reserves beat Oxford reserves 2-0 at the Manor Ground last night, but deserved to score more. Goals from Neil Midgley and Jonas Axeldal saw the Town second string get back to winning ways. Both Gary Croft tand Manu Thetis came through the 90 minutes unscathed with Manu looking particularly strong marking 6' 7" Kevin Francis. Both could find themselves in Saturday's line-up. Sean Friars and Neil Midgley, both out for loan moves to lower League clubs, impressed to numerous scouts in attendance. Others to impress included young South African Justin Miller and Town keeper James Pullen. Town team: Pullen, Kennedy, Croft, Thetis, J Miller, Keeble, Maurel, Holster, Axeldal, Midgely (Logan 80), Friars. Unused subs Inglis, Niemi (GK), A Miller, Daly.

Former Town centre-half and Welsh international Dai Rees has died at the age of 77 following a stroke. The Neath born player was signed from amateur side Treodyrhiw at the age of 26 by Scott Duncan in 1949 for a donation of £350 to his former club. Rees made 356 League appearances for Town and was part of the side which won the Third Division Championship in 53/54. He was also in the Welsh squad of 40 for the 1958 World Cup Finals, although he wasn't in the final 22 which travelled.
