Town striker David McGoldrick has dismissed rumours linking him with a move away from Portman Road.
McGoldrick, 28, is fit again after a lengthy absence with groin and hamstring problems this season and ever since Town rejected a £7 million-plus bid for him from Leicester in the summer of 2014 there has been speculation surrounding his future.
But the player insisted: "I’ve not been thinking about going anywhere, nothing like that. I’ve still got two years on my contract so I’m committed to the club and I think the club are committed to me, so my contract’s not an issue. Two years is long enough for me and for Ipswich so it’s all good.
"Ipswich have been uppermost in my thoughts but I know people there are people out there who speak rubbish about this and that. It’s usually nothing more than a silly old man on a computer making up rumours. I’m committed to Ipswich.”
Had McGoldrick’s move to Leicester gone through, more than likely he would be part of the fairytale at the King Power Stadium as the Foxes sit proudly on top of the Premier League, seven points clear of nearest challengers Tottenham with just six games left to play.
But he’s not one to dwell on what might have been and added: "It’s true Leicester wanted me two years ago but Arsenal wanted me when I was 16 and I’m not still thinking about that.
"Life goes on — what am I meant to do? It didn’t happen, I’m still here, but my big mate Wes [Morgan] is there and I still speak to him all the time.
"I haven’t really brought it up, I’m just happy for him with what’s happening there at the moment. He’s trying to be modest and not talk about it too much. He doesn’t want to jinx it by going on about it too much.
"He’s a humble boy anyway — I grew up with him and I’m really happy for him. I hope Leicester will stay where they are now for the rest of the season and I look forward to seeing him lift that Premier League trophy.
"When I was at Forest with him he was the best defender in the league by a mile. He’s made a few mistakes on the ball over the years and people thought it was quite common but the bottom line with Wes is that he’s a top centre-half and he should have been playing at the top level a long time ago. Fair play to him for what he’s doing now — he’s taken his chance and he’s doing very well.”
McGoldrick, two years younger than the Foxes’ skipper, would like nothing more than to line up against him in the top flight, adding: "Every player wants to play in the Premier League or at least they should.
"If you don’t want to play in the Premier League you shouldn’t be a footballer because you should want to get to the top. I’m no different and I’d love to go up with Ipswich. We’ll see how things go.”
Meanwhile, McGoldrick has reflected on his lengthy spell on the sidelines this season and admitted: "When you’re injured the mental side is very important. You’re in the treatment room and the gym, and the boys are coming in to get the strappings on their ankles or getting a massage before they go out.
"You’re just sitting there waiting to maybe lift some weights, do a bit of gymnastics or go for a swim.
"When they come in from training they’re all talking about it — who got the yellow jersey, stuff like that — and you’ve got nothing to do with the conversation.
"That’s the hard part, like sitting in the stand on a Saturday watching the boys and wanting to get out there to help them if things are not going so well.
"It’s not easy being a spectator but I’m well used to it by now because I’ve had a few years of it. We’ve got a good set of strikers here and they’ve done well.
"Everyone’s not scoring in every game but performance-wise and with what they bring to the team it’s good.”
