Town boss Mick McCarthy says there’s no clamour for his services from clubs elsewhere, despite recent links with the vacant job at Aston Villa.
McCarthy, 57, admits that he doesn’t expect to be in the frame for bigger jobs where there is plenty of money to spend.
"I’d love to be known because I’ve won the Premier League," said McCarthy, who was speaking at a press conference yesterday, where he was announced as Paddy Power’s Euro 2016 ambassador, contributing columns to the Paddy Power Blog throughout Euro 2016.
"I doubt that’s going to happen but I am good at what I do, I know what the gig is. If there are not huge funds there to spend, and we’ve been staying inside that Financial Fair Play, then I accept that. I don’t get frustrated by it. I try and make the best of it.
"I am used to doing it this way. If ever a job comes up that people think requires that sort of person, then that’s what I get named for.
"I’ve not yet been named where there’s been a Qatari billionaire and somebody says, ‘Mick McCarthy would be great for that job’.
"I’m living in hope rather than expectation. I’d like to be as good as I possibly can be, of course.
"I’m also very loyal to what I’ve signed. I’ve not got an agent putting my name for this job and the next job. I abide by the rules.
"I’ve had a pretty good managerial career. I’ve just about finished in the top six so I’ve been one of the top 26 managers out of 92 in the English League for the last 24 years. With Ireland we went from, what, 39th to 13th in the world was it?
"I’m proud of that and am not always wanting to chase something. If anyone wants to speak to me or make an offer, they have to contact [Town owner] Marcus [Evans] and he would have to tell me and would I like to speak to them.
"As yet, I’ve not had any call saying that Everton, Aston Villa or anybody else have been in touch.
"I don’t anticipate they will actually. I don’t think there’s a clamour for my services, if I have to be honest.”
Regarding his relationship with owner Evans, he added: "Marcus, who I get on great with, has trusted me to run his club and leaves me to run his club.
"We had bids for David McGoldrick and Daryl Murphy but Marcus turned them down. I think that was a great level of support for me – not signing loads of players but keeping your best ones and if you have to improve the contracts, then that’s what we did.”
