Town Frontrunners for Feeney - Ipswich Town News

Town are leading the chase to sign former loanee Liam Feeney and are expected to sign the 29-year-old on a permanent basis, despite interest from other Championship clubs.

While reports that Feeney is imminently set to sign are premature, we understand that the Blues are very much the frontrunners to land the winger when he becomes a free agent at the end of his Bolton deal on June 30th, fighting off competition from Birmingham City amongst others, and it would be a surprise if he isn't a Town player next season.

Feeney, who is currently away on holiday, joined Town on loan in March and made seven starts and two sub appearances, scoring once.

Speaking on the final day of the season, manager Mick McCarthy confirmed that the Blues were in talks with Feeney regarding a permanent deal.

"We’re talking to him and we’re talking to his agent,” he said. "I’d like him to stay and he would like to stay and if we can come to a mutually beneficial deal then that’s what will happen. If we don’t, then we won’t.”

Meanwhile, the deal which will see Portsmouth’s Adam Webster join Town and Matt Clarke and a significant fee move in the opposite direction remains close to being confirmed.

The switch, which TWTD first reported a fortnight ago, is all but done, however, we understand some minor paperwork is still outstanding.
