Norwegian Blues Claim Bronze - Ipswich Town News

The Ipswich Town Supporters Club of Norway carried off bronze at the Supporters’ Cup in Oslo on Saturday, their best ever performance at the annual tournament.

Having negotiated their way through the group stages, Ipswich Town 1, one of two Blues teams entered in the senior competition, beat Arsenal 2-1 in the quarter-finals, before losing 1-0 to Spurs at the semi-final stage.

The third/fourth play-off against Aston Villa was reduced to a penalty shoot-out due to the heat and Town won 7-6 to claim third place. Liverpool won for the second year running, beating Spurs 1-0 in the final.

In addition to the two senior sides - which were augmented by a number of travelling English Blues including Bury Town striker David Lampshire - Town fielded a team in the junior competition for 10-13-year-olds and the youngsters also claimed bronze.

The tournament, which has been run by the Supporterunionen for Britisk Fotball for more than 20 years, is a six-a-side competition involving 40 teams made up of more than 1,000 Norwegian supporters of British clubs.
