Town are understood to be among a number of Championship clubs monitoring Middlesbrough midfielder Adam Forshaw’s situation.
The 24-year-old could be made available for loan with his opportunities with Premier League new boys Boro likely to be limited in the season ahead.
Sheffield Wednesday have previously been linked and several other Championship clubs are also believed to be interested.
Liverpool-born Forshaw started his career with Everton having joined the Toffeemen as a seven-year-old but after making only one start and one sub appearance joined Brentford initially on loan in February 2012, before making the switch permanent the following summer.
The 5ft 8 ½in tall central or right midfielder made a big impression with the Bees and in the summer of 2014 he joined Wigan Athletic for a fee understood to be in the region of £2 million. But after only six months with the Latics Forshaw moved on to his current club for a similar fee.
Since then Forshaw, who is contracted until the summer of 2018, has made 19 starts and 35 sub appearances for the Teessiders, scoring two goals with former Blues skipper Grant Leadbitter and Adam Clayton having established themselves in his preferred central midfield role.
Town boss Mick McCarthy said on Monday he was looking to add loan players to his squad but with no deals imminent.
