Crowe Continuing Trial at Pompey - Ipswich Town News

Keeper Michael Crowe remains on trial with League Two Portsmouth and is set to feature in this evening’s friendly against Havant and Waterlooville at Westleigh Park.

Crowe, one of two young keepers Pompey took on trial at the start of last week along Eric Grimes who has now returned to his parent club Leeds United, impressed during the Hampshire club’s tour of Ireland.

The 20-year-old Wales U21s call-up (pictured above left with U21s skipper Joe Robinson) kept a clean sheet when playing 45 minutes of a 3-3 friendly draw at Sligo Rovers last Wednesday and the first 69 minutes of Saturday’s 2-0 win against Bohemians, who had ex-Blue Shane Supple in goal.

Former Pompey keeper Jamie Ashdown, 35, is also currently at Fratton Park trying to win a contract.

Speaking earlier in pre-season Town boss Mick McCarthy said he’d be willing to send third-choice stopper Crowe, who recently signed a new contract with the Blues, out on loan if he thought he was going to play senior games.

"There was a bit of interest and if he’s going to play in somebody else’s first team then I’d let him go out on loan and I might have to sign somebody else just in case,” he said

"We have got Jacob Marsden as well. They’ll only be looking at the bench though as the two lads [Bartosz Bialkowski and Dean Gerken] we’ve got are excellent.”
