Police Confirm Derby Arrangements Agreed - Ipswich Town News

Suffolk Constabulary have confirmed that they and the club have agreed policing arrangements for the derby against Norwich City at Portman Road on Sunday 21st August (KO midday), as reported earlier.

"Suffolk Police and Ipswich Town Football Club have agreed appropriate policing for this month’s derby game,” a Suffolk Constabulary statement to TWTD reads.

Superintendent Steve Mattin, who will be overseeing the policing operation at the game, added: "The police operation has been developed with the football club to ensure everyone has a great day out at this local derby event and allow fans to enjoy the event.

"For up-to-date information and road closure advice on matchday, follow @SuffolkPolice and the Ipswich Town and Norwich City websites.”

We understand policing at the derby game will be much as at previous matches between the clubs, while a number of lower-risk matches will be police-free as in previous seasons.

Last month, Town lost their High Court action against the Constabulary but have been given the go-ahead to launch an appeal.

Regarding arrangements for the season ahead, the statement continues: "The High Court judgement has acknowledged that policing football matches at Portman Road is something which needs to be paid for fairly and sensibly with appropriate policing costs being recovered.

"We will continue to work with the Safety Advisory Group, which includes Ipswich Town Football Club, and we will provide advice to allow the chair to reassure himself of the club’s obligations.

"This process will continue throughout the season whilst the appeal lodged by the club is under way.”
