McCarthy and Connor Watch West Ham and Newcastle's U23s - Ipswich Town News

Town boss Mick McCarthy and his assistant Terry Connor watched West Ham United’s U23s beat Newcastle United’s youngsters 3-1 at Dagenham and Redbridge’s Victoria Road this evening.

McCarthy said this morning that he is looking to add a couple more players to his squad before the transfer window closes at the end of the month, who will be loanees or free agents.

As reported earlier, Hammers winger Martin Samuelsen, 19, is a player we understand to have been interesting the Blues and the Norwegian is one of a number of players from both teams who could become available for loan before the window shuts.

Capped once by Norway at full level, Samuelsen, who spent much of last season on loan at Peterborough, won a penalty from which Antonio Martínez scored West Ham’s opening goal. Marcus Browne added the second and Martínez netted the third, while Tom Heardman was on target for the Magpies.

After the game West Ham's academy manager and head of player Development Coaching, Ipswich-born Terry Westley, who has also worked in Town's youth set-up, said several clubs were represented at the game with a view to taking players on loan.

"There were a number of scouts here tonight - let's see if I get some calls this week!" he said.
