Berra Set to Win Cap as Scotland Face Malta in Opening Qualifier - Ipswich Town News

Town centre-half Christophe Berra is set to win his 34th full cap when Scotland face Malta at the Ta’ Qali National Stadium in their opening World Cup qualifier this evening (Sky Sports One, from 7.30pm, kick-off 7.45pm).

Berra, who has scored three international goals, is looking for Scotland to get off to a winning start having failed to qualify for the European Championships in the summer.

"This is a new start now. And we want to start the campaign well by getting a win,” the 31-year-old said.

"I looked at Malta’s last qualifying campaign and Italy only beat them 1-0 home and away. They will be well-organised, get men behind the ball and look to hit us on the counter-attack. We will need to take the game to them and try to get an early goal.

"There are no easy games in Europe. We have to be on the front foot and put the pressure on them to make mistakes.”
