Chambo Out to Make Berra Angry - Ipswich Town News

Skipper Luke Chambers will be partnering Christophe Berra at the heart of the Town defence tonight against Brighton — and he’ll also be doing his best to wind him up.

Chambers revealed: "We’re always talking about football, me and Christophe, and we have a few disagreements on match days and in training.

"But it’s not that we fall out — it’s just a case of him being so focused on a match day that when I try to help him out or say something to him he gives me a bit of a bit of a growl with his missing teeth.

"I love him to death and he’s been absolutely brilliant since he came to the club. It’s all positive, never a bad thing. I try to make him as angry as I can because he plays his best stuff when he’s angry.

"When we’ve played together — when I’ve had the opportunity to play in the middle — I feel we’ve done pretty well.

"I think Christophe is playing very, very well this season and been dominant in every game we have played so far. Hopefully it will be a nice experience to go back in there and not just play alongside him but also stake a claim to stay there.

"We have some very good defenders at this club and at the minute I think the gaffer sees me as a right-back because of the strength we have in the central defensive area.

"We haven’t really suffered too much from injuries to central defenders in the last few years or I might have had more opportunities to play there.

"I don’t know how long I’m going to be in the middle and hopefully Webby’s not going to be out for too long.

"It might be one game, it might be three, four, you just don’t know. I’ll be fully prepared and I’ve been doing a few different things in training on Sunday and Monday to try to play my way back into the role. I had a few minutes there on Saturday as well and I’m really looking forward to Tuesday.

"Brighton reached the play-offs last season and they have added a few players this season.

"It was a bit of a surprise to see them doing so well last year, having had the season they had the year before, but they were very good last season.

"We managed to go down to their place and take some points off them and we know what to expect from them.

"They have been playing in a similar way the last few years and Chris Hughton always has a good, strong Championship team.

"They are always challenging at the right end of the league and they have good players capable of scoring goals. It’s going to be a difficult game for us but it’s one we are ready for.”

If Brighton represent tough opposition, the same could be said of Saturday’s visitors, Huddersfield, this season’s surprise package, sitting second in the table going into tonight’s round of fixtures.

If Town could collect full points with the latest international break to follow it would provide a huge boost after they managed just two wins from their eight league games since the opening day of the campaign, although they remain unbeaten at home since losing to Brentford in April.

Chambers added: "We’ve always focused on these games in the past, when we’ve had one on the Tuesday and another on the Saturday — two in a row at home — and we’ve always seemed to do well in the past. We need to make the most of it.

"But we are playing two of the best teams in the league, on early form, so we know it’s going to be difficult. However, h has never been an easy place to come and we’re looking to continue that way. We want to keep our home run going and take as many points as we can.”
