Williams and Spence Start for U23s Against Liverpool - Ipswich Town News

Jonny Williams and trialist right-back Jordan Spence both start for the U23s in this afternoon’s Premier League Cup tie against Liverpool at Portman Road, while the visitors include Mamadou Sakho and Danny Ings in their XI (KO 1pm).

Also in the Town team are Andre Dozzell, Paul Digby, Conor Grant and Myles Kenlock.

The Premier League Cup, which replaces the U21 Premier League Cup, emulates the format of the Champions League with 32 teams involved in the group stage and the top two in each going through to the last 16.

From there the ties will be one-off knockout games with extra-time and penalties if required.

In addition to the Reds, the Blues will face Huddersfield and West Brom home and away in their group with the knockout phase starting in mid-March and the final in mid-May.

U23s: Crowe, Spence, Kenlock, C Smith (c), Fowler, Digby, Dozzell, Grant, Morris, McLoughlin, Williams. Subs: Woolfenden, Wright, Benyu, Blanchfield, Folami.

Liverpool: Kelleher, Alexander-Arnold, Randall, Llori, Sakho, Stewart, Wilson (c), Chirvella, Ings, Ejaria, Woodburn. Subs: Whelan, Firth, Lennon, Brannagan, Phillips.
