Hyam Undergoes Surgery - Ipswich Town News

Town midfielder Luke Hyam has undergone surgery having suffered a reaction to his knee injury as he stepped up his recovery during the international break. The 24-year-old, who has been out of action since suffering the knock in the pre-season friendly at Cambridge, is expected to be sidelined for another two months.

The Blues had hoped that Hyam would avoid requiring an operation and until his recent setback had been making good progress.

"Luke took a blow to the outside of his knee at Cambridge and there was damage to a nerve,” Town physio Matt Byard told the club site.

"There was a loss of sensation and muscle control. We hoped it would settle down but just as we started to discuss surgery, Luke improved greatly and we were told he wouldn’t need an operation.

"Unfortunately the symptoms returned again and having seen a specialist, surgery was recommended this time. Luke’s had the operation and we hope that will sort the problem.

"It’s going to be another eight weeks or so before we would expect to see him close to being back on the training field.”

Better news is that David McGoldrick, who has been out of action since August with ruptured ankle ligaments, returned to full training today.

Adam Webster, who has been out with a hamstring problem, also trained this morning and is expected to be available for this Saturday’s game at Blackburn, as is Jonny Williams, who is over the ankle injury he suffered in pre-season with Crystal Palace.

The Welshman was still in his training kit as he watched today's 3-1 U23s victory over Hull City having played in two matches for Gerard Nash's side last week.
