Town boss Mick McCarthy says about 100 scouts were watching highly-rated Dundalk wideman Daryl Horgan as he scored twice as his side beat Cork City 2-1 on Tuesday. McCarthy, who says he's not going to take his interest in trialist Jordan Spence any further, was reported to have been among those to have sent representatives to take a look at the 24-year-old right winger.
"He plays for Dundalk, he’s been playing particularly well and there were about about 100 scouts watching him against Cork on Tuesday night, I can tell you that,” McCarthy said when asked if he could say anything about his reported interest in the Galway-born wideman.
Quizzed further on the widespread interest in Horgan, he added: "Quite clearly when I get asked a question about him by you there are no secrets are there?”
Regarding trialist Jordan Spence, the former MK Dons and West Ham right-back who played two U23s games for the Blues earlier in the month, he added: "He did all right.
"I took him and had a look at him, there’s nothing ventured nothing gained, but Josh [Emmanuel] came in and played two games so I’m not really looking for one, to be honest.
"If anything it it made Josh go, ‘Hold on a minute, he might be looking at somebody else!’ and he played very well in both games.”
