Williams Unsure on Palace Future - Ipswich Town News

Jonny Williams acknowledges he faces an uncertain future at parent club Crystal Palace and has reiterated his desire to find a club where he will feel settled.

The Welsh international only played once for the Eagles last season but still clocked up 34 appearances during loan spells at Nottingham Forest and MK Dons, as well as in the Euros in France when he helped his country to the semi-final stage before going out to subsequent champions Portugal.

He said: "Apart from the year Palace reached the play-offs it was probably my best season in terms of games played.

"I was delighted to go through the whole season because I wasn’t holding back in any way. I was playing my normal game but I wasn’t on the end of any bad tackles and felt fine.

"I’ve been seeing somebody in Warwick to help me stay fit. He’s a bit of a brainbox but he’s very good at what he does and I believe he has helped me. He’s been important to me. He’s a chiropractor/physio but he does everything.

"I’ve been with Palace a long time now and I want to be playing in the Premier League, as does everyone here at Ipswich. I’ve always given my best when I’ve had opportunities, whether it’s five, 10 or 20 minutes as a substitute, which I’ve been limited to over the past two or three years.

"That has been tough and I want to be settled somewhere — but who knows what the future holds? I’m here for the season and I’m going to do my best and see where that takes me.

"I can’t really say much more at the moment but I’ve always loved my time here and I want to settle down at a club.

"It’s hard when you keep going out on loan even with me being able to settle quickly here.

"It would be nice to sign for someone long term but we’ll just have to wait and see what happens. The moving in and out of a new place, carrying all your stuff, is probably the worst part of going on loan.

"Coming back to Ipswich is good because I instantly feel a part of it and it’s nice to know I’m here for the full season and not just a few weeks.

"I was injured when I came back so I was able to sort out a flat fairly quickly. It’s a bonus coming back to Ipswich because I know the club and what to expect.

"The only downside is that they keep making me go through another initiation every time I come back. I had to sing a song for the lads for the fourth time and I hated every second. I’m not even going to tell you what I attempted to sing!”

Missing out on Wales’ first World Cup qualifiers this season has been a huge blow to Williams, who admitted: "I was gutted to miss out after I spent such a long time with the lads over the summer, preparing and then being involved in the Euros right through to the semi-finals.

"We had such a great time and I was really looking forward to a fresh start in the World Cup qualifiers.

"We were all hoping to carry on the good performances we had in the Euros. I had a chat with the manager when I came here and it was more beneficial for me to stay here and play in a couple of U23 games to get fit.

"But now that I’m fit again and looking to push on I’m hoping to be involved with Wales next month against Serbia.

"As an experience the Euros were amazing and it’s right up there with anything I’ve achieved in football. Throughout last season I wanted to stay fit because my main aim was to play in the Euros and it was all about forcing my way into the 23-man squad.

"Having done that, to start the first game was an amazing feeling and one I will never forget. My first game after the Euros brought me back down to earth — it was the pre-season friendly away to Farnborough when I got injured. It was a bad tackle, it was late, but I’m over it now and looking forward again.”
