Blues boss Mick McCarthy says he’d sign loanee Tom Lawrence on a permanent basis tomorrow if he could, but says no potential deal is currently in place with the 22-year-old’s parent club Leicester and that there would be a lot of hurdles before anything might be tied up.
"There’s nothing in place,” McCarthy said when quizzed on the Wales international, whose contract with the Premier League champions runs until the summer of 2018, perhaps joining the Blues at the end of his season-long loan.
"I really like Tom and if I could sign him I’d do that tomorrow, but that’s way, way out of my hands because first and foremost it’s what Leicester think because he’s under contract with them, then it’s what Tom thinks, whether he’d like to come.
"I know his agent and he’s good guy, to be fair, but there’s lots of [questions], can we afford him? There’s all of those things that go on.
"But my sentiment is that I think he’s been great, I’ve picked him every week, he was really outstanding a fortnight ago and the goal he got was fabulous.”
