Knudsen: Now to Build on Massive Win at Wigan - Ipswich Town News

No Town player celebrated last week’s 3-2 victory at Wigan more than Jonas Knudsen, who believes it can be a platform to even better times ahead.

Knudsen, 24, admitted: "It was a massive win and everyone knows it because we haven’t been having a very good time.

"We all know we have been too inconsistent this season and we are all keen to turn it around and get on a good run of results.

"We want to put a run of wins together or maybe two or three wins followed by a draw before we start on another winning run.

"We are still waiting for back-to-back wins this season and we need to change that for our supporters, who were expecting us to be around the top six this season.

"We all know the Championship is a tough league but I still don’t think we are too far away. We are still looking down the table a bit but a good run of results would soon have us looking towards the top again.”

Town face a Portman Road double header with Fulham’s visit on Boxing Day followed by another home clash, this time against Bristol City, four days later.

Knudsen added: "We have to go into the Fulham game looking to build on the win at Wigan with another good result.

"A few weeks ago we had a great win at Sheffield Wednesday but we followed it up with a home defeat by Nottingham Forest, which has been the way this season so far.

"A win on Boxing Day would make it two in a row, which would hopefully see us climbing up the league. It would also make things a lot more positive for everyone connected with the club, including the supporters.

"I know how big a game it is on Boxing Day from my first experience of it last season but before that I didn’t realise what it was like.

"I am really looking forward to it because this is such an exciting time in English football. A few days after Fulham we have another home game and that is another chance to build momentum.

"We want to do our very best for the club, ourselves and the fans, and we work hard in training every single say to try to achieve that.”

But while Knudsen hopes the win at Wigan will propel Town towards the play-offs, he is gutted for team-mate Jonny Williams after the Crystal Palace loanee was ruled out for up to 12 weeks after undergoing surgery to repair a shoulder injury sustained against the Latics.

Knudsen said: "We are all gutted for Jonny and I am very sorry for him because he got a chance against Wigan and did very well before he got injured.

"He had worked very hard to recover from his previous injury and regain his place in the team.

"It is never easy forcing your way back in if you have not played much football and with him being ruled out for 12 weeks it is going to be the same situation all over again for him.

"Jonny is not only a top player, he is also a great lad and I like him a lot. I would like to wish him well.”
