Bru: Important to End 2016 With Home Win - Ipswich Town News

Goalscorer Kevin Bru felt it was important for the Blues to end 2016 on a winning note at home after the 2-1 victory over Bristol City on Friday. The 28-year-old Mauritius international, who was making his first start since October, netted his first goal of the season to put the Blues in front in the 39th minute.

"I think we played a good game and three points to finish the year, so it was very good,” the Paris-born midfielder told Ipswich Player HD after the match.

"Important for the fans and us [the players], I think everyone at the club is happy with this win. Now we can start the new year after a victory. We need to try to win the next one and keep going.”

He added: "It was a long time we didn’t win at home, so I think everybody is happy today.”

Reflecting on the 2-0 defeat to Fulham on Boxing Day, he added: "Against Fulham, they were a good team but we didn’t show that aggressiveness and that identity of Ipswich. Today I think we played well but we were also aggressive, which is good.”

Regarding his goal, he said: "I saw Tom Lawrence on the left, he got the ball and I knew he would cross with his right foot so I ran into the box and I just touched the ball and it went in and I’m happy.”

On-loan Chelsea striker Tammy Abraham equalised for the Robins seven minutes after the restart but Brett Pitman grabbed the post-match headlines with a brilliant overhead kick which won the game for the Blues.

"A fantastic goal,” Bru enthused. "He played well, he was good for the team and we won the three points with his goal. I’m happy for him because he was injured, a great comeback from Pitman.”

Looking ahead to today’s match, Bru said: "We’re in on Saturday so we have to train well ahead of the QPR game and hopefully we can do something at QPR.”
