Youngster Webber in Cup Squad - Ipswich Town News

Academy left-back Pat Webber has been named in the Town senior squad for the first time ahead of tomorrow’s FA Cup third round tie against Lincoln City at Portman Road.

The 17-year-old comes in as cover with full-backs Myles Kenlock (calf) and Luke Chambers (knee) both doubts ahead of the match.

Webber, who is the son of Damien Webber, who played in defence for Mick McCarthy's Millwall side in the mid-nineties, joined the Blues youth set-up from Ryman League Premier Division side Worthing, his hometown club, after a trial at the end of last season and has featured regularly in the U23s this term.

While McCarthy, who usually names a 20-man squad which is reduced to 18 on the day, has said he will name a strong XI for the tie against the Vanarama National League leaders, he was considering including one or two youngsters on the bench.

Meanwhile, the Blues and Wigan Athletic are reported to have shown interest in former Reading midfielder Jem Karacan, who is a free agent having left Galatasaray after failing to make an impact in 18 months with the Istanbul club.

The 27-year-old, who spent time on loan at Bursaspor while in Turkey, is keen to move back to the Championship.

While with Reading the Catford-born former Turkish U21 international spent spells on loan at Bournemouth and Millwall.

Elsewhere, Sheffield Wednesday are the latest club to be reported to be showing interest in Town target Danny Ward.

The 26-year-old's current club Rotherham have confirmed that there is plenty of interest in the striker with the Blues, the Owls, Derby, Huddersfield and Wolves among the clubs linked. The Millers have already turned down an offer from an unnamed club, who aren't Town.

While it had been understood that Ward's contract is up in the summer, it's now reported that Rotherham may have an option for a further season.
