Town are reportedly interested in loaning 19-year-old Burnley striker Dan Agyei, who was recently on loan with Coventry City. Elsewhere, Rotherham are reported to have turned down three bids for Blues target Danny Ward.
According to the Daily Mirror, Clarets boss Sean Dyche has thwarted a loan move for Agyei but the Blues are said to remain keen.
Kingston-upon-Thames-born Agyei joined Burnley in 2015 having caught their eye while playing youth football with AFC Wimbledon.
The 6ft tall frontman is yet to make a senior appearance for the Clarets but in August joined the Sky Blues - then managed by former Blues skipper and coach Tony Mowbray - on loan. Agyei, who can also play on the left as well as a central striker, has now returned to his parent club.
While with Coventry Agyei scored five times in 15 starts and four substitute appearances.
Meanwhile, Sky Sports are reporting that Rotherham have turned down three bids for Ward with the latest offer just under £2 million. If that report is correct then that would almost certainly rule Town out of the running.
In addition to the Blues, Sheffield Wednesday, Derby, Huddersfield and Wolves have all been mentioned in connection with the 26-year-old frontman.
Town continue to be linked with Dagenham and Redbridge striker Oliver Hawkins.
According to the Swindon Advertiser Swindon Town have had a six-figure bid turned down for the 24-year-old, the Blues having made a number of enquiries but no firm offer.
Elsewhere, Lincoln City fans crashed their website and were queuing from 4.45am this morning as they sought to secure tickets for next Tuesday's FA Cup replay against the Blues at Sincil Bank.
The Imps have now sold their allocation for the all-ticket match, which is being shown live on BBC One.
