McGreal Out for Tranmere - Ipswich Town News

Town centre-half John McGreal will miss Wednesday's vital away game against his former club Tranmere at Prenton Park.

The experienced defender has a calf strain which has still not healed sufficiently for him to play. Manu Thetis looks likely to continue in his absence.

Marcus Stewart will also miss the game after aggravating his groin strain in the first half on Sunday. Stewart himself admits he should never have played as he was not entirely fit.

Richard Naylor will probably deputise, although there is a possiblity that James Scowcroft will come in up front and Jermaine Wright will take over in midfield.

Sean Friars has joined Portadown on loan until the end of the season. However, George Burley has said that he will be offering the Northern Irish U21 a new contract.

Friars is also in the Northern Irish U21 squad to play against Malta on 28th March in Valetta. Jim Magilton is also included in the full squad playing the same opposition on the same day.

Adam Tanner has had his contract torn up by mutual consent. Tanner is looking at several offers including one from a First Division club. The only name in the frame so far is Barry Fry's Peterborough United.

Colchester United were earlier mentioned in connection with Tanner, but this now seems less likely to happen.
