Town Confirm Benyu's Loan Extension - Ipswich Town News

Town have confirmed that midfielder Kundai Benyu’s loan at Aldershot has been extended into a third month. Speaking earlier this week, manager Mick McCarthy said the 19-year-old’s stint with the Shots will be renewed on a month-to-month basis but that he is likely to be recalled to get his chance in the Blues first team towards the end of the season.

"I was speaking to [Shots manager] Gary Waddock and they’re going keep him,” McCarthy said on Monday.

"We’ve got a 24-hour recall on him and hopefully towards the end of the season if we’re neither going up nor down then we can blood some of the young ‘uns and Kundai will be better off having had two, three, maybe four months playing in the National League.

"They keep taking him month-to-month and when I spoke to Gary Waddock I said we’ll just keep it the same.

"It wouldn’t make any difference if we said to the end of the season because we’ve still got a 24-hour recall. They just keep turning it over every month. I’m fine whichever way they want it.”

Benyu, who has been on the Town first-team bench on four occasions without making his Blues debut, has made eight appearances for Aldershot, including six starts. His latest extension runs to Saturday 4th March.

The Londoner is out of contract at the end of the season, although his deal is likely to include an option for a further year.

Ipswich Town 1-1 Watford - Match Report
Town spurned a succession of second-half chances as they drew 1-1 with Watford at Portman Road. Imran Louza gave the Hornets the lead in the 16th minute but the Blues hit back through Jaden Philogene five minutes later. While chances had been few and far between in the first half, Town had plenty in a second period they dominated but failed to find what would have been a deserved winner.
