Town newcomer Emyr Huws reckons the sky’s the limit for what in-form pal and team-mate Tom Lawrence can achieve.
Both players are on loan at Portman Road, from Cardiff and Leicester respectively, and teamed up for the first time in last week’s 2-2 home draw with promotion-chasing Reading.
Top scorer Lawrence netted twice, taking his season’s tally to 10, and Huws was the provider for his first as he launched a stunning counter-attack from deep in his own half.
The pair go back a long way and with another Welsh international loanee — Jonny Williams from Crystal Palace — also on board they have been nicknamed The Tafia!
Huws revealed: "Me and Jonny go back to when we were both playing for the Welsh U15s and with Tom it was the U17s, so we’ve known each for a long time and we know each other’s games.
"That was like a massive pull for me to come here and they have helped me to settle in as well.
"We’ve come through all the age groups and played together for the senior international team, which was a great feeling after knowing each other so well over the years. We’re all very proud of coming through together because we’re really good friends and it’s a good, positive thing.
"I spoke to them in the days leading up to the move being completed. It was great to get it all done on the last day.
"Hopefully we can all play together for Ipswich because I think it would work well. Unfortunately, Jonny’s got an injury at the minute but he’ll come back stronger and hopefully help to push us on.
"Jonny and Tom are both top-class footballers with a lot of quality, but at the minute Tom is flying and there are no limits for him or Jonny. Fair play to Tom, though, he’s on fire!”
Llanelli-born Huws returned to Wales last summer when he joined Cardiff from Wigan but the move hasn’t worked out as well as he hoped it would.
An injury meant he was unavailable for Neil Warnock’s first game in charge and his only senior appearance under the experienced boss was in last month’s FA Cup third round home defeat by Fulham.
He was asked if it felt like a dream move joining Cardiff last August and replied: "Yes and no. Home for me was more Manchester because that’s where I grew up but it was nice to be closer to my parents. I didn’t see that much of them after I moved away.
"Things haven’t worked out for me there but that’s in the past and I’m just looking forward now. Deep down, I’m always thinking I have a point to prove and that will keep driving me on.”
