Huws Keen to Build on Promising Debut - Ipswich Town News

New signing Emyr Huws is keen to build on a promising debut that helped Town to a 2-2 home draw with high-flying Reading last week.

It was a much-improved display by Mick McCarthy’s new-look side as Huws, on loan from Cardiff for the rest of the season, linked up with fellow Welsh international Tom Lawrence to great effect.

Huws, 23, said: "I think the game went well, both for me personally and the team. I thought we did really well, especially in the first half, and I felt we were a bit unlucky in the second.

"They scored a wonder goal, which felt like it was a bit of a steal for them, and we were gutted that we lost two points. But overall I thought the performance was really positive and we’ll build on that.

"I was just trying to get on the ball as much as I could then drive and get forward with it. I was looking to help attacking-wise and defensively.

"I felt really good but I think that was just down to the adrenalin. We’ve been training hard this week and I still feel really good.

"The fans are a massive part of the club and I thought they were immense at the weekend.

"They were loud throughout the game and I thought there was a really good atmosphere, which all the lads appreciated and I hope it continues.”

Next up for Town in what looked like a demanding February is a trip to the Midlands to face an Aston Villa side who may be off the promotion pace but are also the only Championship side to boast an unbeaten home record this season.

Huws added: "There were definitely positives to be taken from the draw with Reading. Straight after the final whistle we were a bit like ‘How have we not won that?’ but later on the reaction was a lot more positive from everyone.

"We played well, should have won the game and deserved to win the game. But we didn’t and we’ll take it with a pinch of salt and move on.

"Can we get a result at Villa Park? I think so. I think we are all quietly confident that we can go there and get something. We are all looking forward to it.

"I’m told Villa have never been outside the Premier League in my lifetime until now. I didn’t know that but I do know they are a big club and it should be a good game.”

Town are Huws’s seventh club after he joined Manchester City as a schoolboy and stayed until he was 20. He had loan spells with Northampton, Birmingham and Wigan before joining the Latics permanently, and then Huddersfield on loan before switching to Cardiff.
