McCarthy Already Considering Extending Spence's Contract - Ipswich Town News
Town boss Mick McCarthy says he’s already considering offering recent signing Jordan Spence a longer term contract.
The 26-year-old joined the Blues on a deal to the end of the season last month having previously spent time on trial at Portman Road in September and October when he played two games for the U23s.
The former West Ham and MK Dons man, primarily a right-back, has made three starts and two sub appearances for Town in a variety of positions, most recently on the right of the back three.
"He’s done very well,” McCarthy said. "It makes you wonder why and how he’s not somewhere else. He came here [in September] and Chambo was playing right-back and we had Josh Emmanuel, of course, so circumstances were different.
"He didn’t stay, he went elsewhere and the fact that he was still available in the January window was to our benefit.
"And to his because he’s come and he’s played and he’s done very, very well and we’d have to be looking and thinking, ‘Can we give him a longer deal?’.
"But that’s for another day, let him keep playing, let’s keep getting performances and results with him in the team.”
