McCarthy: Chambo Puts His Body on the Line - Ipswich Town News
Boss Mick McCarthy expects skipper Luke Chambers to play through the pain when Town face Leeds at Portman Road this afternoon, the 31-year-old having suffered a cracked rib scoring the Blues' goal in Tuesday’s 1-1 draw at Brighton.
"They tell me there’s a way of dampening the pain,” McCarthy said. "The problem is, I think, that the muscles around it start to put a strain on it and they can go into spasm to protect it.
"I guess the reality is that it’s six weeks for it to heal but it’s two-week cycles, I’ve just been explained it, the first couple of weeks it could be all right, it could be settled down, but if anybody will play with it, he will. He’s been great, he’s been really tough.”
He added: "Chambo's put his body on the line to play games, he did it on Tuesday night, he cracked his rib then and he played on, and he didn’t pull out of anything, that’s for sure.”
