Eight Arrests at Derby - Ipswich Town News

Police made eight arrests at this afternoon’s East Anglian derby between the Blues and Norwich City at Carrow Road, which ended 1-1.

Two of the arrests were made for attempts to encroach on to the pitch, two for letting off smoke bombs - one in a home stand and one of the 2,000 Town fans who made the trip - three for breaching direction to leave notices and one for attempting to gain entry to the stadium while drunk.

Following the game police put cordons in place around the ground to ensure fans’ safe exit from the area but there was a delay while they moved on two groups of supporters.

Match-day policing commander, Chief Superintendent Dave Marshall of Norfolk Constabulary, said: "Overall there was good spirit between both sets of fans resulting in minimal disorder.

"The policing operation was firm in places and these tactics were used to ensure supporters enjoyed the game and journeys to and from the stadium in a safe environment.

"Additional road closures were put in place to ensure the safety of those attending before and after the match and I would like to thank motorists for their co-operation during this time.”
