U19s Lose Play-Off - Ipswich Town News

Town's U19s lost their play-off semi-final to Arsenal yesterday and as with the first team the game was not without referee-related controversy.

The Blues took the lead in the first half when Ian Westlake latched on to a fortieth minute Robert Dickinson freekick.

However, Arsenal, with England U21 international Jermaine Pennant and French striker Jeremie Aliadiere in their side for the first time this season, hit back late on, in one case very late on.

First Aliadiere was found in space on 75 and beat Price in the Town goal. Then the referee played an extraordinary amount of injury time and with an estimated extra 12 minutes on the clock Pennant nipped in to give the game to the Gunners.

The match was the last of the U19s' season, a year in which they have continued their progress, with many of the side regulars in the reserves and Darren Bent and Darren Ambrose, both absent for the Arsenal game, both making full appearances.
