Central defender Adam Webster says he’s hoping to return to action before the end of the season as he continues his recovery from the ankle ligament injury he suffered in January which required surgery.
"The boot has come off now and I can start doing strengthening work and looking to get back to full fitness from here,” the summer signing from Portsmouth told the matchday programme for last night’s game against Wolves.
"The first couple of weeks I had to stay at home, I was in a cast and couldn’t get around. That was the hardest time.
"The last two weeks I have been in the gym every day and doing Pilates as well and that has definitely helped. You feel like you are making progress.
"Hopefully I will be back in full training two or three weeks before the end of the season. That’s if everything goes according to plan.
"I’d like to get a chance to play if possible, I’d love that, but it will be down to my recovery and the manager, of course.”
Speaking about Webster’s possible return before the end of the season last week, manager Mick McCarthy said he won’t be taking any risks with the 22-year-old.
"Unless he’s absolutely 100 per cent fit he won’t be involved at all and we’ll take the six or eight weeks they have off and make sure he’s ready for pre-season so we’re starting with a fit Adam Webster,” he said.
