Huws Expects to Be Fit for Barnsley Trip - Ipswich Town News

Town boss Mick McCarthy says midfielder Emyr Huws expects to be over his hamstring injury in time to face Barnsley at Oakwell on Saturday afternoon.

The on-loan Cardiff man missed Tuesday’s 0-0 draw with Wolves at Portman Road having come off with the injury during the 1-1 home stalemate with Brentford on Saturday.

"I’ve just spoken to him as I walked out of the building and he’s quite chipper about it, saying he’ll be OK,” McCarthy said. "He’s training tomorrow.”

McCarthy says Teddy Bishop won’t be involved due to the groin problem which has been hampering him over the last week or so, while Jonny Williams suffered a minor setback while playing for the U23s on Monday, his first game since returning from the shoulder injury he suffered at Wigan in December.

"He’s got a tight hamstring, so it’ll be however long it takes,” he said. ”I don’t know, I can’t tell you the timing of it.”

Speaking on last Saturday’s Life’s a Pitch defender Steven Taylor said he was two weeks away from a return to action after his hamstring injury, while McCarthy says on-loan Reading striker Dominic Samuel is making progress as he recovers from his broken toe.

"He’s been out training, he was playing head tennis this morning, he’s been out on the grass,” the Town boss added.

"He’s got his boots on which is encouraging and provided he doesn’t get it stood on or kick anything silly he should be OK.”

Centre-half Adam Webster is out having undergone ankle surgery and hopes to be back towards the end of the season.

Midfielder Giles Coke is set to be released in the summer having missed the entire campaign with a knee injury, while McCarthy has said striker Leon Best, who recently underwent a groin operation, won’t play for him again.
