McGreal Confirms Town's January Interest in Winger Dickenson - Ipswich Town News
Colchester United boss John McGreal confirmed the Blues’ transfer window interest in U’s winger Brennan Dickenson as he praised the 24-year-old's performance after he scored one and created another in Tuesday evening’s 2-0 home victory over Mansfield. In January, TWTD revealed that Colchester had turned down a Town offer for Dickenson.
"There are reasons why the likes of Ipswich Town came knocking on the door for Brennan in January and one or two others I'm sure will in the summer,” ex-Blues centre-half McGreal told the Colchester Gazette.
"Brennan is a terrific player - we brought him in in the summer when he was lacking confidence but this is his best season in football by far. He's come to a young, vibrant team and we've told him to go and play.
"He scored with his right foot coming in and he's adapted his game but you also know you're going to get his numbers with his supply, with a great ball in for Sam [Szmodics].
"It was a very hard-earned win for us and it keeps us in and around that top seven [in League Two], so I’m absolutely delighted.”
Having had their move for Dickenson rebuffed, Town subsequently signed another winger, Danny Rowe from Macclesfield, and it remains to be seen whether the Blues will renew their interest in the U’s wideman in the summer.
Dickenson joined Colchester on a two-year deal last summer having been released by Gillingham. Since moving to the Weston Homes Community Stadium he has made 30 starts and two sub appearances, scoring 10 goals.
