Lawrence Out of Wales Squad - Ipswich Town News

Blues loanee Tom Lawrence has withdrawn from the Wales squad facing the Republic of Ireland in a World Cup qualifier at the Aviva Stadium, Dublin on Friday due to a groin injury.

Speaking after Saturday’s 3-1 defeat at Cardiff City, manager Mick McCarthy said on-loan Leicester man Lawrence was set to undergo a scan [Town have subsequently reported the injury as a hip problem].

Town top scorer Lawrence, 23, who has previously won five full caps without opening his international goals account, has been replaced in Chris Coleman's squad by Liverpool's Harry Wilson.

The Blues' other two Wales international loanees, Emyr Huws and Jonny Williams, were left out of the original squad.

Huws is suffering from a hamstring problem, while Williams is on the way back from the shoulder injury he suffered in December having suffered a minor hamstring injury on his U23s return a fortnight ago.

Earlier today fellow striker David McGoldrick was ruled out of the Ireland squad for the same game with a knee injury, while youngster Monty Patterson has dropped out of the New Zealand party ahead of their double header with Fiji with a hamstring problem.
