Nydam Makes England U18s Debut - Ipswich Town News

Midfielder Tristan Nydam made his England U18s debut as the Young Lions beat Qatar 2-1 in a friendly at the Aspire Sports Village in Doha earlier this evening.

Sheffield Wednesday's George Hirst, son of former Owls striker David, put England ahead on 15, the home side equalised, then Tottenham's Sam Shashoua restored the lead prior to the Qataris missing a final minute penalty.

Debutant Nydam, 17, was in the starting line-up having been an unused sub for the 2-0 victory over Saudi Arabia in the first friendly of the trip on Wednesday.

Fellow Blues midfielder Andre Dozzell started that game but was on the bench for the Qatar match before coming on as a second half sub to win his eighth cap at U18s level. The England youngsters face Qatar in another friendly on Monday.

Zimbabwe-born, Colchester-raised Nydam, who can also play at left-back and signed a two-year pro deal in November, came on as a sub for the Town first team in the pre-season friendly at Cambridge and was on the bench for the match at Huddersfield in January but is yet to make his competitive senior debut.
