Benyu's Loan Extended and Set for New Deal - Ipswich Town News

Manager Mick McCarthy has confirmed that midfielder Kundai Benyu will be getting a new contract, the 19-year-old’s loan with Vanarama National League side Aldershot having been extended to the end of the season.

Benyu has been with the Shots since the start of December and has made 18 appearances, scoring two goals.

"Kundai we’ll be taking up his option, we’ve an option on Kundai and we’ll be taking it up and offering him a new contract,” McCarthy confirmed.

"I spoke to his agent yesterday, he just rang me to see what was happening. He’s done very well while he’s been out [on loan].

"There’s no reason why we wouldn’t want to take up his option. But we want to make sure we’ve got points and see where we are and taking other people’s options now is not going to happen.

"I have got a 24-hour recall on him if I want him but I spoke to Gary Waddock, his manager at Aldershot, and I said to him that the only time I would bring him back was if we were safe, if we’d got enough points and I wanted to play him and give him a game.

"But they may well get in the play-offs, so even if it does happen that we’ve got enough points and there are games left, I think it’ll do him good to be in the play-offs with them if they get in them. That’s still up in the air that one.”

Meanwhile, striker Shane McLoughlin is among a number of other Blues youngsters out on loan having joined Bromley last week.

McCarthy says the Irishman will benefit from the switch and playing against tougher opposition.

"They’ve got to go and play somewhere better than just being in the U23s and I think he’s playing against Lincoln on Saturday and that’ll be a much tougher test for him than playing U23s football,” he said. "They’re all still under review in my book.”

Meanwhile, McCarthy says there is no further news on any other players’ contracts including skipper Luke Chambers with owner Marcus Evans having been due to speak to his agent regarding new terms this month.
