Maurice Steijn, the manager of Dutch side VVV-Venlo, says rumoured interest in him from Town is “not an issue” and that he hasn’t spoken to the Blues.
Last week’s Steijn’s agent said he was aware of whispers linking Town and his client "through the grapevine” but said there had been no contact.
VVV will confirm promotion to the Eredivisie (Dutch top flight) if they win away against RKC Waalwijk this evening and look certain to be crowned Eerste Divisie champions.
Quizzed by Dutch TV channel L1 on the Town links, Steijn said: "It's not an issue. I have not spoken to Ipswich Town. First I want to win the match against RKC and then the championship.”
But VVV technical director, Stan Valckx, admitted that he expects interest in the 43-year-old: "I keep in mind that he might go. Good players can leave and it is the same with good coaches.”
Steijn is contracted to VVV for another year but with his deal allowing him to move on if he is offered the prospect of making a step up financially or football-wise. However, talks regarding a new contract are planned.
Current Blues boss McCarthy has another year on his Blues contract - with the club having an option for a further two seasons - but he said in January he will considering his future once Town are safe and having talked to owner Marcus Evans.
However, on Wednesday, McCarthy insisted had no intention of moving on of his own volition stating, "I’m not walking away from it. I’ll be here and I’ll be planning for next season and I’m looking forward to it.”
