McCarthy to Make Changes at Rotherham - Ipswich Town News
Town boss Mick McCarthy has confirmed he will field a changed team when the Blues take on already-relegated Rotherham United at the New York Stadium on Saturday. However, he says he’ll play full strength sides in Town’s other two games with Sheffield Wednesday chasing the play-offs and Nottingham Forest battling relegation.
"I will change the team for Rotherham,” McCarthy told the club site. "I want to see a couple of players come in and see if they can make a challenge for their position.
"We’ve got Sheffield Wednesday here and I want to win that with a full strength team, hopefully playing like we did against Burton and Newcastle.
"We’re going to Nottingham Forest on the last day and looking at how things are going, there could be something riding on that. If that’s the case I won’t mess around with the team for that either.
"I think I have to respect the integrity of it all, I shouldn’t turn up with a team I wouldn’t normally pick and suddenly get slapped if it affects the top six or bottom three.”
January signings Danny Rowe and Kieffer Moore and academy products Andre Dozzell, Michael Crowe, Ben Morris, Tristan Nydam and Pat Webber could be among those to come into the reckoning for a place in Saturday’s squad.
McCarthy may want to look at on-loan Reading striker Dominic Samuel, who may be available on a permanent basis in the summer and who has so far made only three sub appearances for the Blues, while Teddy Bishop could also get some game time after another frustrating injury-hit season.
