Town Linked With Dutch Midfielder - Ipswich Town News

Town are interested in De Graafschap midfielder and captain Bryan Smeets, according to a report in Holland.

Smeets, 24, is out of contract having turned down new terms with his current club, from whom the Blues signed Fabian Wilnis in 1999, who play in the Jupiler League (second tier).

According to FoxSports.nl, the Blues are very keen on the former Dutch U17 international, who scored three goals and claimed nine assists during 2016/17, as are a number of lower ranking Eredivisie clubs.

Smeets, who is 5ft 11½in tall, started his career with his hometown club MVV Maastricht before joining De Graafschap in 2015.

At the end of the 2015/16 campaign Smeets scored the goal which determined the direction of the Dutch league title when he netted for De Graafschap against Ajax on the final day. Until that point Ajax were on their way to the Eredivisie championship, but because of his goal the title went to PSV Eindhoven.
