McGoldrick Unused Sub for Ireland - Ipswich Town News
Blues striker David McGoldrick was an unused sub as the Republic of Ireland beat Uruguay 3-1 in this evening’s friendly at the Aviva Stadium in Dublin.
Former Town captain Jon Walters skippered Ireland and scored a brilliant opening goal with Derby’s Cyrus Christie and James McClean of West Brom also on target. Another ex-Blue Daryl Murphy came on as a sub in the second half.
McGoldrick's fellow Blues Tommy Smith and Monty Patterson watched the game along with the rest of the New Zealand squad, who are training in Dublin ahead of their pre-Confederations Cup friendly against Irish club side Cabinteely on Tuesday.
Tonight's match and Thursday's 3-1 defeat to Mexico in the US, in which McGoldrick played the full 90 minutes, were in preparation for the World Cup qualifier against Austria next Sunday, also at the Aviva Stadium, when the Blues' number 10 will be looking to win his seventh cap and score his first international goal.
