Town Set to Sign Adeyemi Today - Ipswich Town News

TWTD understands that Town are set to complete the signing of free agent midfielder Tom Adeyemi later today. The 25-year-old, who is believed to have agreed a three-year deal, is out of contract having been released by Cardiff City at the end of the season and was also understood to be interesting the Blues' East Anglian rivals Norwich City, his hometown club where he started his career.

Adeyemi, who spent last season on loan with Rotherham, was first mentioned in connection with the Blues and Canaries in May, while the Millers were keen to keep him for their League One campaign.

On Monday, Rotherham boss Paul Warne said he understood that Adeyemi would end up joining either Town or Norwich.

Asked whether he had any interest in Adeyemi the same day, Blues boss Mick McCarthy kept his cards typically close to his chest.

"I’ve been linked with loads of people but if I answer a question on everybody I’ve been linked with [I’ll be here for a while], and I can’t help what people put in papers,” he said.

Born in Milton Keynes but brought up in Norwich, Adeyemi came through the youth ranks at Carrow Road and spent time on loan at Bradford, Oldham and Brentford before moving on to Birmingham on a permanent basis in 2013 having been released by the Canaries.

After a year at St Andrew’s the 6ft 1in tall midfielder joined Cardiff for a fee in excess of £1 million. Having failed to establish himself as a regular with the Bluebirds in 2014/15, he moved on to Leeds on a season-long loan the following season.

Adeyemi, who qualifies to play international football for Nigeria, joined Rotherham in August last year on a similar basis and went on to score seven goals in 29 starts and one sub appearance for the Millers.

We understand the deal will be completed today with Adeyemi officially joining the Blues tomorrow with his Cardiff contract up today.

The Blues are expected to complete the season-long loan signing of Manchester City youngster Bersant Celina from Manchester City over the weekend in time for the 20-year-old Kosovo international to join the squad when they travel to Ireland for their training camp on Monday.
