Youngsters Make Ireland Trip - Ipswich Town News

Youngsters Tristan Nydam (pictured), Flynn Downes, George Fowler, Adam McDonnell and Pat Webber have all joined the first-team squad for this week’s Irish training camp at the Carton House Hotel in Co Kildare.

Midfielder Downes, who signed his first pro contract last week, was on the bench for the final game of last season at Nottingham Forest, while defenders Webber and Fowler and midfielder Nydam - who came on in the first-team friendly at Cambridge last summer - were unused subs for the senior side earlier in the season.

McDonnell, another midfielder, made his only Championship appearance on the final day of 2015/16 at Derby having made his senior debut earlier that season at Doncaster in the Capital One Cup.

New loanee Bersant Celina also flew out with the rest of the squad yesterday along with fellow summer additions Joe Garner and Tom Adeyemi, as well as Jordan Spence, who signed a two-year deal last month having been out of contract at the end of the season.

Steven Taylor, another whose short-term deal was up at the end of 2016/17, has also travelled as he looks to prove his fitness and win a new contract.

David McGoldrick, Emyr Huws, Tommy Smith and Andre Dozzell won’t join up with the squad until after the Irish trip due to summer international commitments.

McGoldrick, Huws and Smith were involved with the Republic of Ireland, Wales and New Zealand respectively earlier in the summer, while Dozzell is currently away with the England U19s at the European Championships in Georgia.

Town play their first friendly against Drogheda United at United Park on Saturday afternoon (KO 2pm). A full list of the Blues' pre-season games can be found here.
