McCarthy Dismisses McGinn Bid Claims - Ipswich Town News

Town boss Mick McCarthy has dismissed claims that the Blues recently had an offer of just under £1 million turned down by Hibernian for their midfielder John McGinn.

The bid was initially reported in the Scottish press a fortnight ago and yesterday Hibs manager Neil Lennon confirmed that his club had received the offer.

However, McCarthy says that was not the case: "I never bid any money for him. We look at the Scottish market because [director of football] Dave Bowman sees that regularly but I haven’t made a bid for him.”

Asked about Lennon’s comments, he added: "We spoke about him, it’s not one that I’m aware of where we made a bid.”

Meanwhile McCarthy says there is currently no ongoing move to bring former loanee Dominic Samuel back to Portman Road on a permanent basis from Reading: "At this moment in time, nothing’s happening with that.”

He says nothing has yet changed regarding out-of-favour defender Steven Taylor’s situation: "He’s going to do pre-season with us and we’ll see.”

Regarding loans from Premier League clubs, the Town boss doesn’t expect anything further on that front to happen until nearer the end of the transfer window.

"They’re all away with their own teams, nobody will give you a loan at the moment,” he said. "I know we’ve got Bersant Celina but that was sorted out a long time ago.”

McCarthy wouldn’t comment on links with Doncaster striker John Marquis, who has turned down an offer of a new contract at the Keepmoat Stadium.

"We could go through all the names, I wouldn’t tell you whether it was somebody we’ve looked at or not,” McCarthy added. "We fairly trawl everywhere, to be honest.”
