Dozzell's England European Champions - Ipswich Town News

Town midfielder Andre Dozzell and his England team-mates defeated Portugal 2-1 in this afternoon's final in Gori, Georgia to win the European Championships at U19 level for the first time.

Dozzell, 18, returned to the starting line-up, having missed the semi-final after picking up a hip injury in the final group game, and played the first 77 minutes before being replaced.

England took the lead through Aston Villa’s Easah Suliman in the 50th minute, however Chelsea’s Dujon Sterling netted an own goal on 56 to level the scores.

The Young Lions found themselves under pressure after the Portuguese equaliser but Manchester City’s Lukas Nmecha grabbed what proved to be the winner on the break on 68.

England held out in the closing stages despite being reduced to 10 men when Fulham’s Tayo Edun was dismissed for a second yellow card.

Dozzell will be pleased with his performances at the tournament, playing a deeper role than has been the case in the Town first team, and will hope to take his form into the domestic season when he returns to the Blues.
