McLoughlin Nets for Braintree - Ipswich Town News

Blues youngster Shane McLoughlin scored as Vanarama National League South side Braintree beat a Reading XI 2-0 in a friendly at Cressing Road.

Former Irish U18 international striker McLoughlin, who was making his second appearance for the Iron, was played in on goal in the 50th minute and confidently beat the Royals keeper.

The 20-year-old, who was replaced on 67, is hoping to impress the Essex side enough to be offered the chance to join them on loan having ended last season with Bromley, the Blues having subsequently taken up an option to keep him for another season.

In action for Bromley at Hayes Road this afternoon was young central defender Chris Smith, 19, who played 80 minutes of their ill-tempered friendly with a Crystal Palace XI which included ex-Blues loanee Jonny Williams. Smith is also looking to win a stint out on loan.
