Smith and Patterson Named in New Zealand Squad - Ipswich Town News

Town duo Tommy Smith and Monty Patterson have been named in the New Zealand squad for their 2018 World Cup qualifiers against the Solomon Islands in September.

The All Whites host the first game in the double header in Auckland on September 1st before they play the second leg in Honiara four days later.

The two teams topped their groups in third stage of qualifying from the Oceania Football Confederation for next summer’s tournament in Russia.

The winners of the tie will take on the team which finishes fifth in the South American qualification group in an inter-confederation play-off in November for a place at the finals.

Centre-half Smith, 27, took his total of caps to 35 at the Confederations Cup, also in Russia, this summer and has scored two international goals.

Striker or midfielder Patterson, 20, was also involved at the Confederations Cup and has now won 13 full caps, scoring once.
