Waterford Pair Set for Town Trial - Ipswich Town News

Waterford youngsters Aaron Drinan and John Martin are reportedly set to join the Blues on trial.

According to the Irish Mirror, 19-year-old Drinan and Martin, 18, will get their chance to impress Mick McCarthy this week.

Drinan is a striker who only recently joined Waterford from Cork City’s youth set-up, making his debut as a late sub in a 1-1 draw with Cabinteely on Friday. He has won caps with the Republic of Ireland’s home-based U19s side.

Martin, also a frontman, is an Irish U18 international who has become a regular in the Waterford side this season.

Waterford are currently top of the League of Ireland First Division (second tier) by seven points having received significant financial backing from former Norwich striker Lee Power, who took over as owner late last year.

Mick McCarthy previously recruited former Blues striker Daryl Murphy from Waterford when Sunderland boss back in 2005, beating Town to the future Ireland international’s signature.

Former Blues Stephen and Noel Hunt also hail from the city in south-east Ireland.
