McCarthy: McGoldrick Goal Dedication Sums Up Squad - Ipswich Town News

Boss Mick McCarthy says David McGoldrick dedicating the goals which gave the Blues their 2-0 Carabao Cup win at Luton on Tuesday to injured team-mate Andre Dozzell sums up the bond within his squad.

Dozzell is set to miss the rest of the season with a torn knee ligament suffered during Saturday’s campaign opener against Birmingham, which the Blues won 1-0.

"They’re a really nice bunch of lads that care about each other, which is lovely. I didn’t know he’d done that but that sums up the squad really,” McCarthy said. "They are rallying round.

"I’ve just seen him in the physio room. He looks as sad as a seaside donkey at the minute, but he’ll be all right.

"He’s fully expected to be. But terrible news, can you imagine, ‘You can’t do your job for 12 months’?

"It’s nine months but we get round to pre-season and it’ll be this time next year when he's coming back, that’s just devastating news for him.

"But I said to him when I went to see him the other day, ‘You’ll be 19. You’ll probably play until you’re 35 so you’ve got 16 more years to enjoy it’. But I’m sure he’s not thinking that way.”
