Waghorn Pleased to Hit Ground Running - Ipswich Town News

Striker Martyn Waghorn was delighted to open his Town goals account with the winner as the Blues came from behind to beat Barnsley 2-1 at Oakwell.

The 27-year-old, who cost a bargain fee of around £300,000 when he joined from Rangers earlier in the week, came on at half-time along with David McGoldrick and, after the Ireland international had equalised, slotted home the winner in the 70th minute.

"We started the game a bit sluggish and we turned the game around second half, which is huge for confidence and morale,” Waghorn, who was making his Blues league debut having come on as a sub in the Carabao Cup at Luton on Tuesday, said afterwards.

"As a striker and as a new player you always want to hit the ground running, start well and get the goal, I am very pleased with that.

What a feeling... Great 3 points for the team 🙌🏻.. delighted to score my first goal for the club too 🙌🏻⚽ #itfc @Official_ITFC #9 🚜 pic.twitter.com/HogQPPVTdm– Martyn Waghorn (@MWaghorn33) August 12, 2017

"The win showed the spirit we have in this group, they all fight for each other, work for each other. "Coming to a place like this is going to be tough so going back down there with three points is huge for the lads.”
