All Four Strikers Start for Blues at Millwall - Ipswich Town News

Town boss Mick McCarthy has named the expected side for this evening’s game back at his old club Millwall with all four of his strikers starting.

David McGoldrick looks set to partner Joe Garner up front with Martyn Waghorn likely to be on the right and Freddie Sears on the left.

Flynn Downes travelled having suffered knocks at Barnsley on Saturday but isn’t in the 18 with Grant Ward partnering Cole Skuse in the centre of a four-man midfield.

At the back, Jordan Spence again seems likely to partner skipper Luke Chambers at centre-half with Dominic Iorfa at right-back and Jonas Knudsen on the left. Bartosz Bialkowski is in goal.

On-loan midfielder Bersant Celina misses out as he is again unwell, while Michael Crowe is the sub keeper with Dean Gerken not making the trip for personal reasons.

With 10 first-team players currently unavailable - Celina, Gerken, Downes, Tommy Smith, Adam Webster, Teddy Bishop, Tom Adeyemi, Luke Hyam, Andre Dozzell and Emyr Huws - Town name a very inexperienced bench with Myles Kenlock having made the largest number senior appearances for the Blues.

Millwall: Archer, McLaughlin, Hutchinson, Webster, Meredith, Wallace, Saville, Williams, O’Brien, Morison (c), Gregory. Subs: King, Craig, Thompson, Onyedinma, Ferguson, Elliott, Cooper.

Town: Bialkowski, Iorfa, Spence, Chambers (c), Knudsen, Skuse, Ward, Waghorn, Sears, McGoldrick, Garner. Subs: Crowe, Rowe, Nydam, Kenlock, Morris, McDonnell. Referee: James Linington (Newport, Isle of Wight).

Town look set to face a return trip to Blackburn Rovers later in the season after this afternoon’s game was abandoned after 80 minutes due to a waterlogged pitch with the home side 1-0 up and with the Blues down to 10 men.
