No Town Deal for Trialist French - Ipswich Town News

Town will not be taking their interest in AFC Sudbury defender Tyler French any further, according to the Bostik League North Division side's boss Jamie Godbold.

French, 18, played for the Blues’ U23s in Monday’s 3-2 victory over Crewe, having previously been on trial at Playford Road last October. He has also spent time with Premier League pair Crystal Palace and Leicester over the last year.

"I am led to believe Ipswich were looking for a defender to come in and play first-team football right away, and I think the feedback Tyler got is he is not quite ready for that yet,” Godbold told the Bury Free Press.

"But I guess we have been there before and we welcome him back, hence he was straight back in the team [at Maldon & Tiptree on Tuesday]. He has been through a lot in a year and I guess it has been a real rollercoaster for him.

"I have been reluctant to give my personal opinion, but what I think Tyler needs to do now is get one or two seasons under his belt playing at this level week-in, week-out.

"If the likes of Ipswich are looking for someone who can start games, having 50-100 games at this level will do him no harm at all.”
