U23s in Action at Burnley - Ipswich Town News
Town’s U23s are in action against Burnley behind closed doors at their Barnfield Training Centre this afternoon in their first away game of their Professional Development League Two South season (KO 1pm).
Gerard Nash's side came from two goals down to beat Crewe Alexandra 3-2 in their opening game of the campaign at Playford Road last week.
Speaking on Friday, manager Mick McCarthy said midfielder Luke Hyam would be involved as he continues his comeback from the knee injury which has hampered him since pre-season.
"Luke Hyam is playing in the U23s at Burnley on Monday,” he said. "He wants that, he’s been out for a long time. He doesn’t want to be involved in a Carabao Cup tie [at Crystal Palace tomorrow] that is going to be far more intense.
"Go to Burnley, get your 75 minutes, he’ll probably do 90 minutes in the next game a week on Tuesday and then he’s fit to play, I would say.”
Otherwise it’s likely to be a very young side with a number of players who are likely to be U23s regulars involved with the senior squad at Selhurst Park tomorrow.
